Kia ora, I was keen to see Matariki from my home in Christchurch. However, I'm an amateur astronomer and aware of issues around light pollution. Unfortunately, my worst fears came to pass and Matariki was hidden by the pollution. So, I wrote to the paper as I believe Matariki is important, and therefore there is a right for all New Zealanders, including those in the cities, to see the cluster at the appropriate time.
I'm sorry this is negative when there is much positive to talk about, but we do need to have this conversation.
