This year, our focus is all about making te reo Māori visible, encouraging everyone to take simple actions that demonstrate their support and commitment te reo Māori. Join us to help make te reo Māori a lasting part of our everyday lives.
Display Posters:

Other Ideas
Here are some more resources to help with learning and speaking te reo Māori. It could be as easy as greeting everyone you see with 'kia ora', starting your Zoom call with "mōrena", or playing te reo Māori songs in your workplace all day.
- Have a Disney reo Māori movie session at kōhanga or kura. The songs are also available on music streaming platforms.
- Listen to te reo Māori only for the hour or day.
- Play our ‘Te Wiki o te Reo Māori’ playlist in your business or workplace for everyone to hear!
- Listen to learning podcasts like Taringa or Everday Māori to sharpen your reo.
- Re-watch our Rarangatahi seminars where rangatahi Māori talk about their journey with te reo Māori.
- Download the whare kōrero app to listen to iwi radio from around the motu.
- Tune in to Whakaata Māori.
- Listen to the latest Waiata Anthems playlist, available on all streaming platforms.
- Listen to Hinewehi Mohi sing our national anthem in te reo Māori at the 1999 Rugby World Cup in England.
- Host a ‘Kai and Kōrero' event where you only speak in te reo Māori. You can make this potluck or eat out at your local!
- Make 'kia ora' your first choice of greeting to everyone you speak to.
- Recite a kaikōhau (expression of hope).
- Learn and use #MyMihi to introduce yourself to anyone new.
- Prepare your whānau, friends or workplace to speak te reo Māori for the hour.
- Open your news bulletin with te reo Māori.
- Start lunch off with a karakia.
- Order your coffee in te reo Māori.
- Kaputī me te kōrero - grab a kaputī at mahi or at home and invite whānau and friends.
- Set a ‘reo Māori only’ zone within your workplace or home.
- Set a time where your whānau or workplace only speak te reo (i.e. 1-2pm).
- Call a friend have a kōrero in te reo Māori.
- Sit with your kaumātua or whānau and share stories about te reo Māori in your family. Stories of te Reo is a platform to share your memories and experiences related to te reo.
- Organise a lunch time te reo Māori lesson.
- Take some te reo lessons online with Tōku Reo.
- Practice your pronunciation and learn the Māori alphabet.
- Watch Hēmi Kelly's learning videos on the Facebook group 'A Māori Phrase a Day'.
- Learn about Māori place names with Sonny.
- Set out to learn a word a day for a year – see 365 Māori words.
- For tamariki you can re-watch videos from Kura Mō Ngā Mokopuna. Developed during the first lockdown in 2019, this series of engaging educational videos is taught by experts as well as graduates from kōhanga reo and kura kaupapa Māori.
- Play a Kahoot quiz with whānau or colleagues. There are lots of pre-made Māori language quizes on their website. You'll need access to internet and some devices!
- Play Wharewhare reo Māori (Bingo!). There are games available to purchase and templates online, just search google!
- See Pania Papa’s video on easy Māori games to play with no equipment.
- Bring a group of friends together and play Dungeons and Dragons in te reo Māori.
- Download some Māori apps and play with your tamariki, like Pāpapa, and lots more Māori Language Apps.
- Have fun with kupu with Kaupapa game.
- Play Fortnite in te reo Māori with this rauemi from Mahuru Māori.
- Get your tamariki together to do reo Māori yoga for kids with Mauritau Yoga.
- Play Panga (Wordle) in te reo Māori.

- Spend your lunch hour reading a te reo Māori book.
- Read to your tamaiti/tamariki - See Te Reo Māori Bookshop for a range of pukapuka reo Māori.
- For beginners, try ‘Māori at Home’ ‘Māori 4 Work’ ‘A Māori Phrase a Day’ ‘Te Reo Māori: Basics Explained’ and ‘Māori Place Names’. For intermediate and higher see Mai i te Kakano, Te Rito and He Iti Kahurangi.
