A Kaiako who left an impression

When I went to Parkland School in Motueka in the 1980's we had a teacher called Mr van de Plas. He came into school and taught us the reo and things to do with Te Ao Māori. This was the first time I remember being taught the reo. This was also the time that the lady was fired for answering the telephone exchange Kia ora. Things have changed so much since then thanks to people like Mr van de Plas and the telephone lady (Naida Glavish)
