30 people had been physically assaulted for speaking Maori at school, 16 said they had been given other punishments (ranging from being "told off" to being made to sit in a corner all day. An older woman originally from Te Iringa, said when she was working at Greenlane Hospital she used to be told off for speaking te reo to Maori patients.
