Maori Language week is a very important part of our school celebration and learning.

Maori Language week is a very important part of our school celebration and learning. We learn Waiatas, Maori Poems, Maori songs, Maori Pepeha which is an integral part of children's daily learning. In this lockdown our children started their zoom meetings with Karakia and our school Pepeha which is so cool. Every child knows the Pepeha so well. Our Maori leader in our school is Whaea Karen Hohaia. She is very supportive of our students and teachers by coming on our zoom meetings and guiding our students through songs ,haka, listening to Waiatas and Poi dance. We humbly joined in and enjoyed this moment in time with her. We are very proud Manurewa South School. I am a beginner learner in Maori Language but I love the essence of the language. I would love to learn more.
