My why is reclaiming what was once lost. Growing up without a sense of belonging, I know the pain of a silenced identity. But here in Aotearoa, seeing the pride of tangata whenua in te reo Māori, I’ve learned that language can heal what history tried to erase. Being one in a million means honoring that revival—not just for myself, but so no one else has to grow up believing they don’t belong.
