We had a karakia in our library, and then several of us did a round of mihi. We also had a game for kids where they could get a badge for either teaching us a Māori kupu or learning one with us.

Kath

I have started a "Kupu o te Rā" in my library and for my Māori language moment I showed a group of borrowers where to find the post each day to learn a new word. We are going to keep it as a permanent fixture of the library.

I am a new resident of Aotearoa (from Australia) and I believe that it's my responsibility to learn the original language of the nation. But also, te reo is so beautiful that it's for mere pleasure as well.
