Anahera : Ako - Te Reo at Mahi / Kura

I am leading our Te Wiki o te Reo Māori efforts across Tauranga City Council (TCC). We have 3 events scheduled - (1) Tī Rākau for staff - staff will get to learn about the art of tī rākau, utilise some phrases and make their own tī rākau. This will culminate in being able to use these tī rākau as a kemu (game) with waiata, increasing te reo competency. (2) Waiata Wenerei - we have a waiata group called Te Tira Toiere who get together every fortnight and practice waiata Māori. Our theme for our waiata will be around learning Te Reo Māori, part performance and part akiaki (encouraging) our colleagues to jon us! (3) Kahoot Quiz - Kaupapa Māori themed quiz in teams of colleagues to see who will reign as Te Tīma Toa for TCC! We will also have Kia Māia te Tū (the courage to stand to speak te reo Māori ) an online campaign of TCC staff who will share their personal journeys of learning Te Reo Māori, their joys and challenges and tips! Finally, every day we will have 10 helpful phrases to encouarge the easy use of Te Reo. Each day has a different theme. Monday - Māori towns in the Bay of Plenty, Tuesday - Terminology for Whānau, Wednesday - Māori in Sports or Hākinakina, Thursday - Māori at work and Friday - Māori in the home. It promises to enthuse, invigorate and excite people to be encouarged to learn Te Reo Māori. Prizes will be drawn for those who participate in 1 of the 8 wero (challenges) throughout the week! Kia kaha ki te kōrero Māori!
