Kōrero to my tamariki and mokopuna
E aku tamariki mā, e aku mokopuna,
My hope for te reo Māori is that it will always live in your hearts, your homes, and your voices.
By the time you are grown, and by the time your own mokopuna are running around, I dream that te reo Māori will be the language you hear in every home, every school, every shop, and every workplace. I want it to be the reo you turn to when you laugh, when you sing, when you cry, and when you celebrate.
In 2075, I want you to stand proud knowing that our reo is not just being kept alive, but is strong, beautiful, and everywhere. I want you to see it on TV, in books, on the sports field, in the hospital, on the marae, and even in the newest technology.
Most of all, my tamariki mā, I want te reo Māori to be so natural for you that you never wonder if you should speak it, you just do. Speak it with pride, teach it to your children, and carry it forward so that it will never be lost again.
Ko te reo Māori te manawa o tō tātou iwi - it is the heartbeat of who we are. If you keep speaking it, our reo will never fade.
