Te reo Māori does more than remind me who I am — when I speak it, it feels natural to wield it. It flows through me as if it has always been there. I still have so much to learn, but every kupu I gain brings me closer to my tūpuna, my whenua, and my whānau. Te reo Māori is not just a language, it is lives inside of me.

I would definitely love te reo Māori to be more accessible overseas, especially here in Australia. By 2075, I hope Māori who live away from Aotearoa can still learn, speak, and live in te reo Māori with ease. My dream is for it to be heard in homes, schools, and communities across the world — thriving everywhere our people are.

Te reo Māori is the foundation of Aotearoa’s future. It strengthens identity, heals the past, and guides the next generations. Even from across the sea, I can see its power — when te reo thrives, the people thrive. I believe by 2075, te reo Māori will not just shape Aotearoa, but it will ripple outward, influencing Māori and non-Māori alike, in every corner of the world.

If you are reading this, te reo Māori has carried through to you. When I was learning, I often felt like I was walking slowly, step by step. I still had so much to learn. But every kupu I spoke felt natural in my mouth, like a taiaha in my hands — a taonga I was born to wield.
