September 18, 2025 - Today has been an incredibly fulfilling day in my Maori class, and I must say, it has truly been the highlight of the term so far!
Our schedule was jam-packed with stimulating classes that not only kept me engaged but also fueled my enthusiasm for learning. We began the day with our Maori language lessons, where we immersed ourselves in the rich culture and history of the Maori people. The teacher emphasized the importance of pronunciation and encouraged us to speak more confidently, which I found both challenging and rewarding.
Following Maori, we transitioned into English class, where our focus was on a deep analysis of the novel “Hatchet” by Gary Paulsen. I’ve always been captivated by this story of survival and resilience, so I was thrilled to find out that we would be writing a book review of it! I eagerly took notes on my favorite themes, character developments, and the author's writing style. I’m really looking forward to sharing my insights and reflections during class discussions; it feels great to have a platform for my thoughts.
Next, we had a lively session of Physical Education (PE), where we engaged in various team sports that fostered collaboration and physical fitness. It was refreshing to take a break from academics and bond with my classmates through friendly competition and support.
Math class followed, which, surprisingly, was quite enjoyable today. We tackled some challenging problem sets, and I appreciated how our teacher made complex concepts more accessible through real-life applications. It was satisfying to solve problems and see the practical side of math in action.
To cap off this amazing day, we had our Mana class, where we are delving into the film adaptation of “Hatchet.” I was eager to see how the filmmakers brought Paulsen's vivid descriptions to life on screen. Having loved the book, I have high expectations for the cinematic interpretation. I can’t wait to witness how the pivotal moments are depicted and whether the film will capture the essence of Brian’s journey as powerfully as the novel did.
Overall, today felt like a fully immersive 'Hatchet' experience, with each subject intricately connected to the themes of perseverance and understanding our surroundings. I left school feeling inspired and eager for what our next activities will bring!
