My hope for Te Reo Māori is for it to be widely integrated into New Zealand just like other bilingual countries. Where we don’t think twice about having translations in both English and Te Reo, both are taught in primary with the option to continue Te Reo in secondary and that scholarships are not awarded based on ethnicity unless for a culturally specific course. We also dont prioritise health care, education, financial services and other essentials based on ethnicities and instead everyone is treated to the same care and quality of care regardless of who they are. I hope to see a future where we aren’t continuing to separate and blame each other from past mistakes and failures and that we learn to work together united as one country, acknowledging that all who call NZ home are equally important in achieving the outcomes we desire as a country.
