Kapa Haka:
I am currently 15 years old and am very passionate about kapa haka. In 2020, I signed up to join the kapa haka group in my primary school (Waikanae primary), and in 2023, I was the karanga (lead female), at yr 8 prize giving the same year, I won the te reo maori leadership award and my kapa haka stood up and gave me a haka and blessed the pounamu my mum had brought as a christmas present (in photo), along with the privilege to look after a beautiful rock from the top of Kapiti island.. In 2024 I moved to a new school that didn't have a kapa haka group but still travelled to Waikanae to watch my friends be the karanga for their year (in this photo). 2025, I stood up to be the karanga/kaea for my yr 10 noho marae trip, and continued to lead the songs and activities. I hope that my passion for kapa haka continues, and the amazing part if our culture thrives and become more popular with more supporters.
