Kia Ora,
I am a Chilean living in New Zealand for the past 5 years. In 2023 the government wanted to eliminate the signs in Te Reo and change them to english. I did not agree with this, specially not their reasoning. They explained it was because only 19% of New Zealand were Māori. In my revolutionary head I thought, well they might just be 19% Māori, but Te Reo speakers will be much more. I enrolled the following week. Now close to the end of 2025 I am graduating from my Te Reo class level 4, and going full immersion level 5 in 2026. My son is in Te kohanga reo, and we read books, sing waiatas in Te Reo everyday. I want him to understand the worldview through the language, in case one day he becomes a politician for this country, he's one that serve all of his country and not just some. By the time this capsule opens, he will be 54 years old. He might not be able to hug me reading this, but if he's able to do a karakia in my name with his family, i know it was worth it. Te amo mucho mi Leo. Kei te aroha au ki a koe, e taku tama
