Te Taurawhiri i te Reo Māori
Ko Kāi Tahu me Ngāpuhi
In 2025, te reo Māori is alive but fragile. the government treats te reo as an optional extra. It cuts funding for teacher training. It demands public service departments use English-first names and communications. It removes te reo from early‐reading books, from official invitations. Ministers strip greetings, ignore Treaty promises, roll back pūrongo, change policies without consultation.
Currently we speak, we sing, we teach — yet still, we fight for its place in homes, schools, work places and hearts. Our hope is that by 2075, te reo is not just surviving, but thriving — woven into every corner of Aotearoa and spoken without hesitation. Kia kaha te reo Māori! Ake Ake Ake - A Forever Language!
Fun fact — this time capsule kaupapa was actually Amy’s idea, brought to life with the help and support of a few kaimahi from TTWH! Chur :)
