Ive lived in ahitereiria for 17years and I recently went on a trip back home after 12 years for a whanau reunion, my sister moved back home over a year ago so she was the reason I decided to go back. This time, I felt a pull to go home, I felt a pull to re learn and reclaim my reo maori. I speak te reo as much as I can and I speak it to my babies, for a very long time I didn't speak maori or I use to hide being maori because of the shame I felt moving here to Australia and the interactions I had with me own people. But now, I want to korero as much as possible and show my kids they can do it too. I hope in 50years, my tamariki are fluent in te reo and possibly moved back home and re claim their Maoritanga.
