When I was young at school people use to make fun of my surname and first names there was even a horrible experience where my teacher (Maori) also made fun of one of my names these experiences built a sense of insecurity and loneliness and a shame of being maori as I grew older I allowed people to mispronounce my name because I was to ashamed to correct them or make a joke about it too ease my insecurity and anxieties so I began to deny my own identity just fit in Peer pressure for sure You know as I reflect on all those times on being made fun of as a kid and as a adult I think back on how our tupuna and my grandparents were treated as kids and adults in there time and the violence and violations they were put through and I believe it made them stronger because personally my trials and tribulations definitely made me more stronger and resilient for me it is a matter of heart and courage to learn te reo Maori and to be at peace with the journey of true self Mouri ora

This is a protest piece dedicated to nga tamatoa

This is a painting inspired by the hikoi to present the petition

The inspiration of this piece came from the old pictures 50 years ago with our people holding a banner saying AKONA TE REO MAORI the use of the Tino Rangatiratanga haki adds to the sacredness of our language

This art piece depicts sacredness of each vowel which originates from our Atua Maori to our Tupuna to us the use of the Tino Rangatiratanga haki strengthens our hikoi of rejuvenation of Te Reo Maori

The inspiration for the art piece evolved from the pictures of the hikoi to parliament Akona te reo Maori The use of the Tino rangatiratanga haki compliments the kaupapa of Te Wiki o te reo Maori E kore e ngaro he kakano ahau i ruia mai i rangiatea

I listened to te reo Maori music 24/7 Surrounded myself with fluent speakers which enable me to hold a conversation. Iv met other te reo learners on Facebook which gives us the opportunity to chat (korero) to each other to the best of our ability Being a avid reader I have started reading te paipera owned by my father ❤️ Also iv got in touch with a te reo kaiako to let her know that I am interested in enrolling in te reo classes next year under the Te Wananga o Aotearoa ❤️ Honestly this week has reignited my passion for my reo No reira E kore e ngaro he kakano ahau i ruia mai i rangiatea Tena koutou katoa 🖤🤍❤️
