Share how you celebrated
Share what you did for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2023. This will go on to become a showcase of how we celebrate te reo as a nation.

Kia ora everyone,
Te Wiki O Te Reo Maori has officially kicked off and we encourage everyone to give it a go!
While the theme this year is “Kia Kaha Te Reo Māori” Let’s make the Māori Language strong. The major thing being promoted this year is “Maori Language Moment” which aims to have 1 Million people doing something in Te Reo Maori at the same time being 12midday Monday 14th September.
If you want to officially join in the moment, sign up here (if not already) and participate in this event today…maybe even take a picture or video of this “Moment” and send them in…Prizes are to be won!
The Te Reo moment could be as easy as playing a Māori language waiata (song), starting your online hui (meetings) with “Mōrena” or “Kia ora”, or blessing your kai with a karakia (prayer).
If you wanted to join us, our team (Te Ara Haepapa) will be singing “Tu Tira Mai Nga Iwi” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FdQP1eYDXc which I encourage you to do if you’re stuck for ideas. Crank up the volume, sing along to the waiata and record a video if possible to share
There will also be a “Kupu o te ra” (Word of the day) which will be shared each morning through the week. The challenge set to the team is to use that word in a sentence, email, call or whatever.
If at the end of the week you’ve used all 5 Kupu in the day that they were shared, there will be prizes!
Monday 14th Septermber Kupu o Te Ra:
• Hikoi= Walk
Well that’s it for now, we encourage everyone to use the Kupu above sometime today and also sign up here and participate in the Maori Language Moment today at 12midday. Kia Kaha Te Reo Maori!
Ngā mihi,
