Ka waiata mātau mo te wā tuku reo Māori! We'd planned a week of waiata performances and classes for staff and the public, but Level 2 stopped that from happening. So, spaced apart in the staff stairwell we could sing and be safe!

Ka waiata ahau ki ōku hoa mahi mo te Wā tuku reo Māori. Me he kororo tuī mātou! ! !

There is something about this word that speaks to me. I know I can't truly achieve turangawaewae myself, being pākeha, but this word creates a powerful sense of belonging for me. I hope through my te reo Māori journey to gain more understanding of the connection of the language to the sense of self.

Te reo Māori is as important as the earth that we stand on, or the air that we breathe. Unless we learn the language of our home, we will never truly be home.

Kia ora! Kō Kay tōku ingoa. Nō Kōtarani me Airani ōku tīpuna. Kei te noho au ki Taieri papatahi.

Because te Reo is our language, and we should all speak it to some extent. I would like to see it used more frequently in conversation, and I want to learn more about Māori concepts as they relate to our world so I can adhere to them in my everyday life.
