Several months ago the Performing Arts Specialist teacher (Mrs Maddie Moulin) approached me at the Kura I work at and asked if the school choir could learn a Māori waiata and 'possibly' perform with our small but hearty Kapa Haka group. We were overwhelmed at the timing of the invitation, as it was the day before Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2025 was to officially start. I contacted Koro Mark Wirihana-Cribb who had a moko in our group for help, and we practiced for several weeks after school.
Together here they are, the Wanneroo Secondary College (Perth WA) School Choir and Kapa Haka (Mrs Moulin on the piano) singing 'Ka Pioioi' for their whanau and friends.
