Marsden school all paused in their lessons to learn the kaikōhau which was new to us, or say a karakia we already knew. The teachers sent some photos and videos to me of this taking place. We had around 200 participants from Preschool up to Year 13.

As a school under level 2 this year we decided to sing the waiata Te Aroha for secondary school, whilst the primary part of our school sung the national anthem, also with sign language. The students stayed spaced out, staying in their classes they had at that time. I had teachers taking photos of each space. In all we had 335 students taking part.

Year 7-10 at Samuel Marsden Collegiate all singing our school Waiata -Hamuera Matene at 12pm. This was led on stage by some of our Kapa Haka girls. The photo is of the leaders

We asked the tamariki why learning te reo Māori is important to them. . . They shared their ideas with us "At Preschool we want to learn to reo māori because we only know a little bit of te reo Māori and we don't know all the words of it. We can count in te reo Māori but we want to learn up to 100". "We like to sing tirama tirama and Tutira mai nga iwi and we know karakia".
