Te Wiki te Reo Māori 2023 pledge

Ako | Learn

Our kaiako have been focused on researching their pepeha and are preparing to share this on video for us to upload. Our tamariki have been learning a variety of kemu including Ki o Rahi. Our kura have been learning actions to go with our gifted school waiata and we plan to video and upload this. We do karakia as a natural part of our day however we also do a morning blessing and include some breathing exercises we learnt at our marae. And I (te Tumuaki) am learning to kōrero Māori so I can share with my moko due in 2 weeks time! :-)

I got permission from Hēmi Kelly to share small snippets from his awesome pukapuka - A Māori Phrase a Day which I upload to our school Facebook page. I am getting feedback from our whānau that they are using these to help them on their own journey and many are also buying the pukapuka!

We celebrated Puanga and Matariki for the term and celebrated with a Whānau Matariki Concert which started with Kaikōhau, shared kai and then a concert which included: Shared learning about each whetu, matariki, space, science etc from each learning hub. Then there was also waiata, kapahaka, rakau, kanikani and more. We put it all on our school facebook page, we had lots of whānau for both shared kai and the concert - our hall was full and so were our hearts!
