Green field (background) represents the pastures and the abundance of the district.
Two rivers, Waipawa and Tukituki are represented by the two blue wavy bars.
The sun with straight and wavy rays, represents the light and warmth, the two necessities for growth.
The sheaf of wheat (garb) represents horticulture, the fleece represents agriculture, and the ship (lymphad) represents the exports on which the district depends for its prosperity.
