In celebration of Māori Language Week 2025 — which also marks its 50-year anniversary — I’m joining @reomaori ‘s Pūtahi Mahara (Time Capsule) project.
I envision an Aotearoa 50 years from now where both Te Reo Māori and NZSL are fully revitalised and deeply ingrained as the country’s two official languages, as our nation and society continue to evolve and innovate.
NZSL also includes signs for Māori-specific concepts, which are actively developed by Māori Deaf individuals to express their cultural identity and experiences within the language.
