This is me on Titirangi Maunga just yesterday 16/09/20 not only celebrating Maori Language week but also celebrating life itself. I can see Turanga / Gisborne with a 360 degree view. I have been climbing this hill since I could walk and the view is always different to me. I can embrace my Maori identity and embrace the beauty of being Maori. I am proud to be Maori and a strong Maori Woman too. At the back of me is a monument/map that traces the voyage of Maori first arriving in Turanga from Tahiti. I have included a link for further information. https://www. tupapa. nz/ Tupapa - historic interpretations Tupapa - bilingual historic interpretations includes 2 view shafts 3D maps, one on the Turanganui riverside and one on Titirangi summit; 10 pou (markers) and a website and mobile app that share the tangata whenua stories of iwi arrival and settlement and great navigators. Developed by a partnership of the 4 Turanga iwi, people can take self-guided walk that connects sites from Waikanae Beach to Cook Landing Site and Titirangi Reserve. Go to the Tupapa website(external link) and download the app.

Te reo Māori is an incredibly beautiful language and am loving being on this journey. The normalisation of te reo Māori is also important to me as a kaiako.

Because I have 3 young sons with a Samoan father who is strong in his Reo and Fa'a Samoa. . . . . because I grew up with no Reo and felt disconnected from my people, my land, my culture and myself. . . . because there is a stigma around being Maori, a stigma that i refuse to allow my children to grow up with. . . . because stereotypes SUCK! Because I am a women, an educated women of mana who is raising the future both at home and in my profession. CHANGE starts with me.
