My great-grandmother kept her mātauranga like a secret as she wished to live as pākeha in her time. I feel sad that she was made to feel ashamed. So learning te reo for me at the moment is like finding something. Inconclusive as the finding may be, it could be a long walk :)
I also just like language and communication. It’s humbling to acknowledge other worlds through languages & to pursue social connections /whakawhanaungatanga
