I took my team through the Te Reo Māori vowels:
a as in papa
e as in egg
i as in eat
o as in horn
u as in two
We talked about some place names eg Manurewa and how I used to say them - and then when I focus on the vowels I can pronounce it better.
Also ran an activity in the same session called 'speed rabbit'. A game with 3 animals - rabbit, elephant and cow.
People in a circle with one person in the middle who points to someone in the circle and says 'elephant' - that person then wraps them arms like a trunk and each person on either side have to make the ear shape with their arms ( a left and right). if anyone is slow to get the right movements that person then goes into the middle. The same with a rabbit and the cow - each with their own moves.
After doing that a few times we then worked out what the te reo Maori word for rabbit, elephant and cow (rāpeti, arewhana and kau) and used those words in the game.
