In Whakaahurangi / Stratford we celebrated by making history. Our town’s Glockenspiel plays a scene from Romeo and Juliet four times a day and at 12noon on Monday 14 September we launched our new Te Reo Māori recording of the scene. This is the first time our Glockenspiel has performed in Te Reo. Voiced by local people and translated by Makere Edwards, the Te Reo Māori version is playing four times a day until 20 Mahuru. We hope to be able to play it more regularly going forward once we improve the sound system.
We were fortunate to have representatives from local kura come down and support our Māori Language Moment with waiata and haka prior to the recording being played.
Ngā mihi!
