Kia ora, I am a kaiako and all week I have been engaging the tamariki in activities that represent each of the 9 matariki stars.
My most precious moment however is when we reflected on the star Pōhutukawa. I shared with the tamariki, photo's of my grandparents who had passed and the strengths and knowledge that they had instilled in me. When my voice began to break a little one of my tamaiti stood up and just wrapped his arms around me and gave me the biggest warmest hug. This told me that not only had this moment touched my heart but I knew it touched his too. I can't wait share these moments with our whanau on our Matariki evening celebrations as well as my own kaikōhau with them too.
