Lainie | Matariki 2021

Yesterday morning Ashgrove School in Rangiora held a Matariki Breakfast of pikelets and Weetbix, with over 300 people in attendance. Our tamariki have spent the last 3 weeks working in a tuakana/teina approach to create Matariki Art. Each art group was given a Matariki star to base their art upon. At the breakfast, families came together, visited and admired the amazing artwork that the children had made. It was a brilliant way for our community to visit, share kai, celebrate the past year and look forward to the coming year. Mr Melrose read Matariki Breakfast to a group of young children, our kapa haka group performed, and we were priviledged to have a year 10 Ashgrove alumni student speak about what Te Reo means to her. It was an amazing event.
