Kia ora! Mānawatia a Matariki! This is a video of me celebrating my first Matariki. As part of it, I practiced my (very basic) Te Reo skills by saying the beautiful kaikōhau. I also said it in my native language, Portuguese, as I am from Brazil, and I have European Portuguese heritage as well. Lastly, I said it in Spanish, as I also have Spanish heritage. Even though I have African and Amerindian ancestry too, I do not know which specific languages those ancestors spoke due to genocide, slavery, and colonisation. Still, they are part of me, and I am very proud of my roots.
