Because I am Pakeha-Maori not raised te ao Maori, and at 51 am hungry to take back our language - an act of decolonization. To model to my son and to honour my koro - who at age 14 left his language and culture behind because he thought it would make him a 'better more successful' person, who could provide for his family.
