I am encouraging tamariki at my workplace to relate their sense of belonging in Aotearoa with the paikiwaitara of the tangata whenua. I shared my favorite pukapuka from Peter Gossage about Maui and its legendary during the recent lockdown. I enjoyed making meaningful connections with the land we now call home through the local community's legendary stories. The current extension from my teaching philosophies are from the western perspective of sustainable environment to the bicultural lens on the importance of te mara in an early childhood centre.
