Michaela | Maori Languge Moment 2021

This video features our Te Ao Rangahau Engineering New Zealand staff taking part in Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, Māori Language Moment. With our office based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, we were fortunate that many of us could join together in the office and waiata Te Aroha.

This is just part of our activity for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori – internally, as well as taking part in the moment, we've also created an internal staff quiz to test people's te reo knowledge (and have prizes up for grabs for any one who takes the quiz).

Externally, we've written an article for our members with tips on how to celebrate: https://www.engineeringnz.org/news-insights/celebrate-te-wiki-o-te-reo-m%C4%81ori-2021/

We've also developed social media assets with te reo words relevant to engineers, and a guide on how to correctly pronounce these words. We'll share these on our ENZ Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram throughout the week.

Having a dedicated week is a great chance to raise awareness and celebrate te reo Māori – and here at Te Ao Rangahau Engineering New Zealand, we understand to truly get behind it, we need this effort to extend beyond a single week by integrating it into our everyday life.

This is something we’re working hard on. We’re underway with our own te reo journey through introducing weekly learning within our all staff meetings, dedicated online resources through an internal Teams channel, and by actively encouraging our people to embrace te reo. Much more is underway to embrace te ao Māori in all that we do.

Kia Kaha te reo Māori!
