I am a Sustainability teacher in the Auckland region. For my online class and student work this week they got to pick activities that incorporated going out in the environment and learning te reo. Some tasks included going on a native tree scavenger hunt, with the id guide in te reo. Another task was to learn the names of 10 geometric shapes in te reo and then go outside and find these shapes in nature. They could also participate in this Moment as one of their activities.
I listed to the Spotify Waiata Reo Māori playlist for that hour (and more) while I did school work. I have thoroughly enjoyed this week and the Māori Language Moment. As an expat from Alaska I have so much to learn and I am grateful for the experience to be involved in incorporating te reo into my language and my classes.
