Kia ora Koutou,
As a teacher in Early Childhood, I often found singing challenging but I equally loved it. Singing alongside my fellow kaiako, I was inspired and gained confidence to my ability to sing. One goal set for myself was to regulate as much Te reo in my daily routine and this lead me to learn waiatas and greetings that help me become a confident and competent teacher. I hold a strong aroha and connection to waiatas such Tu tere mai nga and Te Aroha, because by reciting these beautiful songs helps me sustain, acknowledge and understand of the importance of Te reo and tikanga practices in Aotearoa.
