We were proud to learn this new waiata as a kura especially for te wā tuku reo Māori. We love the message with the kupu about the importance te reo Māori. This is something that we treasure all year round, not just for te wiki o te reo Māori - He taonga te reo Māori. We will continue to strive to further our journey as a kura to learn te reo Māori.

We had an amazing week celebrating Te Wiki o te reo Māori. Each day we had different challenges at school for tamariki, akomanga, kaiako and whānau to participate in. Our Māori language moment looked different for each class, as this year due to Covid restrictions in school we could not gather collectively. Heoi ano, classes took part in - reo rotarota waiata, tākaro, tuhituhi, karakia, kore tinana, kanikani, pukana, panui pukapuka. Here is a compilation of our week! Matakitaki mai!

Ko Raiha Johnson tōku ingoa. I te taha o tōku pāpā - Nō Te Tai Tokerau ōku tīpuna. I te taha o tōku māmā - Nō Te Tai Tonga ōku tīpuna. Kei te noho au ki Waihopai, Murihiku!

Waverley Park School, Invercargill. Ānei tā mātou nei waiata mō te wā tuku reo Māori! ! ! Our koha aroha for the kaupapa was our school waiata “Mā te reo” - which holds the important message about the hope that through learning te reo Māori, our tamariki will understand the depth of beauty and knowledge that te Reo Māori holds. All we have to do is take the time to learn and truly appreciate it.

Te reo Māori is a taonga for all our tamariki in Aotearoa. Its part of who we are as a nation. Our tamariki at our kura absolutely love learning te reo Māori and doing kapa haka. We are building a future generation of Aotearoa who are competent, confident and passionate about te reo!
