My 4 x great grandmother arrived on her own in Aotearoa from Armagh, Ireland in 1863, aged 19. Last night I walked to a multi cultural celebration of Matariki beside the mighty Manawatu Awa, and listened to the voices of the children of Rangitane singing out into the night, under the stars that guided her journey here. It was simply wonderful to know that those same stars continue to guide me and everyone else there. May the whakakotahitanga continue to bring us together as the peaceful whanau we have the potential to be.
