Nau mai, haere mai ki te wiki o te reo Māori! Over 50 of our staff participated in a Zui, starting with a karakia and then onto a Kahoot we designed. We had prizes for our top 5 and spot prizes also. Just part of the competition we have going on this week! Our tāngata had better knowledge than they thought, haramai te toki! Nailed it! Elsewhere around the motu, those who had to see clients or had hui celebrated in their own way either by kōrero or whakarongo. Some of our leaders opened their hui with a karakia and a reminder that it was our Māori Language Moment.

Tamaki Makaurau based so our class in still in L4 lockdown restrictions. Approximately 20 Year 1 & Year 2 participants (Swanson Primary School) joined the 11. 45am-12pm class zui . After our class karakia, tamariki requested to sing He Honore . Bad weather = bad connections but these tamariki from our combined A4 & A5 akomanga persevered. 💚 Throughout our 45 minute zui: 1. Te wiki o te Reo Māori - Oxwhanau have committed to: 1. Open each day (includign nōnāianei) with a karakia to share, a waiata to join and a kupu to learn. This is being shared across all our different teams. 2. Ko te Rārua Hui - at our Tuesday Hui (14/09/2021 at 12. 15) we welcomed all in MS Teams in te Reo, joined a waiata, and staff shared, at various levels, their day/week in varying levels of Te Reo. Most are basic learners so for many it took māia to try and know they would stumble. 3. Staff are beginning to understand and use karakia and whakātauki to help frame their day and their week ahead - especially for those in L4 lockdown still. Today, soon after 12 - two chose to share their selected karakia with the full team as manaakitanga for us all.

I was proud of myself for reading out the questions as best as I could to practice my pronunciation. We all wondered if the answer to Qu 26 (colours) was correct?

I also incorporate Māori in to my everyday speak but my speech is only at beginners level I can read it better

Our office had bring your own lunch today as we can not share at the moment. We based today's korero around kai. We are beginners so used simple phrases. For example: My share was - kei te kai aporo ahau (I am eating an apple) We practiced this with the food we were each eating. Another workmate shared: Kua ki tonu taku puku (My tummy is full) As we are not always in the office together we are meeting again on Rāmere and our korero will be based around the colours of the rainbow (aniwaniwa).
