Aotearoa | Nationwide
pacific.churchofjesuschrist.org/nz
This year we are celebrating 170 years of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Aotearoa NZ. This is the first time we are running a national event for Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori. With more than 100,000 members we will be releasing a children's picture book about our Church History here in Aotearoa 'Whakapono, Tūmanako me Ngā Merekara: Faith Hope and Miracles.' This book is fully bilingual in Māori and English. It is narrated by two tamariki Junior and Aroha, who share adventures with Church historians Aunty Rangi and Uncle Vic Parker who tell them stories about the early Māori saints and their experiences including those of: Ngataki the first Māori person baptised, Wetekia Ruruku and her family, the translation of the Book of Mormon into Māori in 1889 and then revised again in 1918, the building and legacy of the Māori Agricultural College (MAC) and its ākonga, the building of the Hamilton New Zealand Temple by Labour Missionaries in the 1950s and many more. The book is being launched in Kaikohe on Wednesday 18 September at 6pm in a community event, this will be videoed and then broadcast around New Zealand on Saturday 21 September for the children's groups to view and celebrate. 5,000 copies of the books will be given to families to share with their tamariki. More information is available from Melanie Riwai-Couch [email protected] or 021981107.
