“Tino rangatiratanga tō reo, mana motuhaketia te taiao, tino rangatiratanga tō hauora, mana motuhaketia tō pā harakeke”
“Let our te reo Māori be exercised with sovereignty, let the environment be upheld in its own intrinsic mana, let your health be governed by tino rangatanga, let your whānau be upheld in its own mana and uniqueness”
Kia ora e te whānau in the future!
This submission is from the Health Quality & Safety Commission Te Tāhū Hauora (the Commission). We are a Crown Agent that monitors quality and safety across the health system.
We work with other government agencies, health providers, professional bodies and consumers to improve safety and quality. Our goal is quality health for all New Zealanders.
This recording is of our waiata group chanting our mōteatea and singing the waiata ‘Nei rā te Kaupapa’.
The mōteatea was written by Doug Edwards, Te Pou Tangata. He wrote the mōteatea from information and feedback gathered from kaimahi at an away day and also found support from:
- Jim Wiki, another Te Tāhū Hauora kaimahi
- Doug’s Aunty Mamae who supported the wording and rangi of the mōteatea
- Doug’s awa o Waikato which provided space to listen, learn and chant the mōteatea
- Te Kāhui Pīringa – our Māori Advisory Board – who loved the mōteatea
Our waiata group meets in-person and online every Tuesday and Thursday to practice karakia, mōteatea and waiata.
Ngā mihi nui, the Commission's waiata group
