2075 - e hika ma! I'll be long gone but I'm excited by what the future has in store for my mokopuna. Today is Sept 8, 2025. It's a crazy time. We have our government undermining the mana of Te Reo Māori. Things like removing kupu Māori from books, removing ingoa Māori from government departments, cutting funding to Māori initiatives and breaching Te Tiriti o Waitangi. It is a frustrating time as we see the impacts of colonisation still very much felt in Aotearoa. But I am so excited by the change that is happening. The resurgence that is Te Reo Māori. In 2075 I know that Te Reo Māori will be truly embraced for the taonga that it is here in Aotearoa. It will be normal. It will accepted. It will be protected. It will be everywhere. All our tamariki will grow up with Te Reo Māori as their first language. You will be able to hear it everywhere! I am so excited for what is in store for you my mokopuna. We are all so proud of you. In the words of the late Kingi Tuheitia - just be Māori, all day every day. You are perfect just the way you are.
