Makomako Māori School 1958-1960. We were lucky enough to be part of their 'Maori Action Song' group and to learn waiata, haka, poi and tī rākau and even compete against another Māori School at a local marae. Our warm acceptance and inclusion by our classmates and their whānau has had a profound effect on me throughout my life and inspired me to learn some basic Te Reo Māori.
