We launched our Māori language movement, Poutama Reo! We ran a "Whiwhiwhi Arero" competition and gave away prizes. We got photos of staff and students with our "Te Wiki O Te Reo Māori" frame. It is hard for me as a Pakeha who wants to learn as much as I can Tikanga Whakaaro and te reo Maori to hear this negativity and not have assertive responses.

At Rutherford College we celebrated te Wā Tuku Reo by hosting some whakawhanaungatanga between us, Rutherford Primary, Matipo Primary, and Te Kōhanga Reo o Te Kōtuku. We got together in our marae, Te Kōtuku, and shared karakia, waiata, and kōrero. During the week we had a Kapa Haka performance, a Mau Rākau workshop, and over 700 of our students participated in the Education Perfect Whakataetae Reo Māori. Our students also created and shared the attached video.

I was at an elders lunch put on by the Salvation Army. Mixed cultures of about 80 people. At noon, the Pastor asked if anyone knew what was special about this week. Silence. I put up my hand, ' Ko tenei te Wiki o Te Reo Maori' and was asked to explain macrons and what a waiata was and invited to sing. I sang 'Ka pīoioi ' and explained how Matua Kereopa Ratapu wrote it about his joyful home-coming.

I whakapapa from Muriwhenua and moved to Waipounamu. It was educationally learning about local Hapu and Iwi being new to the Sputh Island.

I haven't always been confident in being Māori as growing up it was looked down on but the older I've gotten and being a Māma I've had to be that person standing strong not only for my tīpuna but also my tamariki. So every year when te wiki ō te reo Māori comes around we celebrate with waiata, kai and whanau gathering to share stories about our whanau and our journeys. My big girls did a kapahaka perfomance to celebrate their grandparents and we always learn a new phrase everyday during reo week. I've taught my girls to stand strong in their culture and reo because it's got to start somewhere right so why not from me. Kia kaha Māori ma.

To celebrate Te Wiki O Te Reo Māori at our kura we got the tamariki to make steam pudding they challenge was to translate steam pudding into te Māori they had to research the ingredients in reo and when we got to make it they used te reo Māori to add ingredients and make it for the whole roopu. It was such a fun way to research, and share a Kai afterwards. They tamariki also shared it with all their kaiako and printed off their recipe to take home and share with their whānau
