This week and next, we have had a different student write up a Maori welcome on the whiteboard.

We as a school did a Waiata and did the Huakina Haka to show our support

Our Beca Kirikiriroa Office came together to practice pronunciation and then sang E Minaka Ana together and shared a hāngi afterwards

whole school waiata

I took part in my (MPI) kapa haka rōpū's practice for Te Konohete!

Our Organisational Communications tīma at Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga (Ministry of Education) has committed to learning te reo Māori together. We are a virtual team so we come together weekly on Teams to share our progress and support each other with our learning.

I joined the wider CCHL whānau online for waiata. It was a huge group - many of those linking in online had multiple people in meeting rooms so the total number is probably well over 100 - and it was really inspiring to have so many faces and voices participating!

I read a pukapuka in Te Reo Māori!

Ka pai! What an awesome Te Wiki o Te reo Māori. What has made this week so successful in learning Te reo Māori has been the Kaikako and ākonga effort in learning some daily phrases or kupu to support their journey. If you are interested in what we looked at or maybe want to test yourself, then please click the slide: https://docs. google. com/presentation/d/1Qa3jFB9_CfKH7V0hoQDp0br-uj88cuKI7q7oicJT5dI/edit?usp=sharing We also decided as a Kura that this year we wanted to take part in the national event for Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori where you decide to either participate in only speaking Te reo Māori, waiata or tākaro (play). This is to celebrate the presentation of the Māori Language Petition to parliament on the 14th of September 1972. It has been marked every year since 1975. We decided to have an informal gathering to sing some waiata to celebrate. Huge thank you to all members of Sheppard pod who attended also Hillary 8s and Rutherford 4. We performed 2 waiata and then finished with our school haka. Kia kaha Te reo Māori.

Today we celebrated as a whole school with learning 5 'Kai Tahu Kiwaha' and having a competition. The tamariki were amazing with their performance and we had fun too!

Celebrating Te Wā Tuku Reo Māori in our multicultural community brings us closer together.

When we speak Māori we also speak for those who couldn’t, who weren’t allowed to, who wish they could. We have 30 minute sessions every week to sing and learn new waiata which is a fun way to learn te reo Māori. Everyone is always busy so its also a great place go meet new people and grow together in our reo journey.

We had great fun getting together as a school today singing Ko te whirika for our te reo celebration.

Kia ora koutou, At around 12:00, all of the tamariki (children) and kaiako (teachers) at AE Camrose came together to participate in a special Te Reo Maori moment. This moment was a celebration of te wa tuku reo Maori, a time to honor and embrace the Maori language. At our te reo Maori moment, our infant tamariki gave it a go with poi dancing. Our toddler and preschool tamariki had their very first Haka performance and sang waiata together in our preschool room. These moments allowed our tamariki to connect with the rich cultural heritage of Aotearoa, fostering a deeper understanding and respect for Te Reo Maori. We are incredibly proud of their participation and willingness to embrace this important aspect of New Zealand's identity. Ngā mihi nui 😊

This is the year 9 music option class at Kamo High School, performing Pepeha by Six60. We learned what pepeha represents and means at the start of the term and presented each other's pepeha in class to introduce ourselves. Then, we picked the instruments we wanted to learn the rhythmic patterns and chords from Pepeha. This is the video from our last band rehearsal. We did our school Karakia during the song's instrumental part to remind ourselves about our school values. We are very proud of what we have achieved this term and excited to learn more waiata to spread the love of learning te reo Māori. Ngā mihi nui!
