Imagine if 50 years ago, on the first Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, our tūpuna had buried a time capsule. A place to hold their hopes, fears and dreams for te reo. If we dug up their time capsule, what would we find inside? Handwritten letters, banners from marches, or maybe black-and-white photos?
Now we have the chance to send a message to the future through Pūtahi Mahara (the Time Capsule).
What will you leave in the capsule?
Kei a koe te tikanga – it’s totally up to you! But here are some prompts you could use:
- What does te reo Māori mean to you?
- Record yourself saying your favourite whakataukī, waiata, or maybe your pepeha.
- Write a message to your future self – or to your mokopuna in 2075.
- What is your hope for te reo Māori? What do you want to see for te reo in 2075?
- How do you see te reo Māori shaping Aotearoa’s future?
The Pūtahi Mahara submissions is now closed. It will be sealed and locked away until 2075 — the 100th anniversary of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori.
Pūtahi Mahara
This year we are asking people to submit a photo, video or message to the time capsule. It will be locked away until 2075 - so leave a message for your mokopuna.
How different will things be in 50 years?
Submissions are now closed.
