In Whakaahurangi / Stratford we celebrated by making history. Our town’s Glockenspiel plays a scene from Romeo and Juliet four times a day and at 12noon on Monday 14 September we launched our new Te Reo Māori recording of the scene. This is the first time our Glockenspiel has performed in Te Reo. Voiced by local people and translated by Makere Edwards, the Te Reo Māori version is playing four times a day until 20 Mahuru. We hope to be able to play it more regularly going forward once we improve the sound system. We were fortunate to have representatives from local kura come down and support our Māori Language Moment with waiata and haka prior to the recording being played. Ngā mihi! a moment when the realisation hits that i am incredibly passionate about te reo. Its the most beautiful language. I long to be able to speak however its not going to come magically ( I wish) life's journey is in unravelling colonial thinking and to grab reo opportunities when I can, even if there iti ones.

I kōrero Māori mātou ki te Berhampore Community Orchard. Tokowhā ngā pakake, tokorima ngā tamariki. Ia Rāhina (10am), e tū ana tetahi rōpu māra mō tamariki.

We chose to sing E tū kahikatea as the name of our farm and nursery is Kahikatea Farm. We named the farm to acknowledge of the history of the area - the whole of Poukawa valley where we live was once kahikatea forest, and also due to the cultural symbolism of these trees, growing in stands with their roots intertwined to support each other. Supporting our local and our permaculture community, as well as our environment, is a key part of our kaupapa. https://kahikateafarm. co. nz/

I have been writing short stories from our 2nd home: Aotearoa, called 'Corona-diaries from the MiddleEarth' since the 1st lockdown. There are 110 corona-diaries on my Facebook account so far and keep going. . . The aim is to inform our relatives and friends back home in Europe about Kiwi life, Kiwi people with their art, culture, traditions. Yesterday I wrote a post – dedicated to Māori language week (Te Wiki o te Reo Māori) how I finally understood what the famous voyager's (Kupe) wife meant when she cried: 'He Ao! He Aotea! He Aotearoa! (Cloud! White cloud! Long white cloud! )'. It's even more visible during the summer period. The best place where to raise a child. We're learning Māori songs, waiatas (including lullabies – oriori) together with my daughter Tove Tui. I'm happy that she'll learn Māori language at school. Because that's the only way – how to be aware of the history of our ancestors, how to build our identity and keep the stories (whakapapa) alive. So for me as a story-teller, journalist and mom the most important word (kupu) will always be: 'whakapapa'. And the most important saying (kiwaha) of these tough covid days could be: 'Never waste a good crisis. (Kaua e maumauria he raru pai). ' All these lockdowns are really good opportunity for all of us to pause, think and make a positive social change in our community. . . Let's give it a try.

This week last year I carried out a 45 minute research interview with me asking in English and my research participant providing all their korero in te reo Maori - I realised I understood a lot of what was said. I decided to use te reo greetings as a standard in my daily interactions. This week as I work alone and went out to catch up with a friend for coffee to mark the moment. I had a short an impromptu te reo Maori conversation with my barrista - after opening up the conversation with Kia ora. It was a challenge as I hadn't planned it. But I surprised myself when I recognised what was being said and I was able to answer with a sensible answer after she asked how I was today. #firstgenrationNZer #startingtereojourney #dailytereo

Pa Tate did a sermon on te wa - a moment in time. I spent my te wa reflecting. I spent my te wa with my hoa rangatira, who passed away last year. He was a fluent speaker. He was a trained teacher. He was mentored by Sir James Henare, at that time they were setting up Kòhanga Reo. He said then that they needed trained teachers of te reo Màori. With Ngapo Wehi, they started the first te reo class at AIT, in an old disused science lab. That's how it was. He would not accept the position offered to him at Carrington (now Unitec) unless he was on the top table - where the decisions were made. He said he needed to have a voice for things Màori. He set up the Màori Faculty at Unitec - Puukenga. There are many other stories. I always told him he was gifted and had unique skills. All these years later, they still need trained teachers of te reo Màori, now more than ever. I miss him so.

Our tamariki performing haka alongside the All blacks! !

We learnt a few new words of Te Reo and I enjoyed listening to some waiata. Everyday we have been making the effort to greet each other in the morning in Te Reo and have been studying the great book "Maori at Home" to learn some new phrases and words.

On our Fijian Language Radio Programme Show (5pm - 7pm) on Saturday 12th September, 2020, i dedicated a moment acknowledging the ancestral land of Tangata Whenua Māori o Aotearoa. Most importantly, the preservation and strengthening of the Te Reo Māori. On Sunday, 13th September as a lead up to the 14th September 2020 the beginning of Te Reo Maori Week, I dedicate and posted a picture of me at the Radio Studio on Saturday on our Facebook Page, with a beautiful Whakataukī lifted from Jane McRae in the book I'm currently reading to honour Tangata Whenua Māori. It's titled; 'Maori Oral Tradition: He Kōrero nō te Ao Tawhito'.

Sharing resources with whanau and speaking in Te reo whenever we could.

Dive Instructors in training learnt a karakia to tangaroa!

At Titirangi Primary, we wanted to have a whole school assembly for the Māori Language moment and sing some of our favourite waiata. We are in Level 2. 5 because of Covid-19 in Tāmaki Makaurau, so we had to improvise. We made a slideshow for all the classes to play at 12pm so we could all sing in our own classrooms at the same time. Here is Ruma Tekau mā toru singing "E Kereru. " (written by Jenny Shearer and Matiu te Huki. ) The rest of our playlist included "Aotearoa" "Tutira mai" "Poi E" and "Kia māu ki tō ūkaipō. "

A group from my mahi got together and said the Serenity prayer and sung a himene. We were 7 strong :) The Salvation Army Addictions Service, Bridge and Oasis, Wellington
