Our whole kura played 'Whare Whare'! We made our own rerenga to go with the numbers when we called them out to make it fun eg. "ko tahi - Let's do the mahi! ! We had numbers in Te Reo to help those that did not know the higher numbers written on the board. We had a great time learning te reo Māori and playing this kēmu.

Kia ora, here is a video and photo of space 3 playing Kua paepae ō koutou waka! The tamariki learnt new kupu such as mako, motutere and waka. Once their ship was wrecked they had to "haere ki te motutere" without getting tagged by "Ngā mako" or they became one too! I then gave them He waka hou, and then they had to Hikoi ki te waka hou without getting tagged again. Until last tamaiti standing! ! ! Had to be pretty easy for these guys!

Our Tuakana sang the waiata Tua by Stan Walker. He waiata mīharo rawa atu ki a mātou!

I participated in a zui with my te reo group we shared our mihi and said some karakia. It was fun to join in the moment with our korero

An amazing holiday in the Philippines with my whanau in 2019, paradise.

Celebrating Māori culture and Te wiki o te reo Māori / Māori language moment by listening to Māori songs / waiata, learning new words / kupu, dancing and enjoying poi spinning together with my daughter / tamāhine Tove Tui.

Our whole kura played "Whare, Whare". We had the numbers in Te Reo on the whiteboard to help for those who were unfamiliar with larger numbers and made up our own rhyming rerenga for the caller - eg. Ko tahi - let's do the mahi! I tino pai rawa atu te kēmu 'whare whare'

Hi - I'm the Junior Team Leader at BBPS. I have enjoyed spending time online during the lockdown with each class in the Junior School at Bucklands Beach Primary School. I always share the Te reo 'days of the week' song - the children LOVE IT! ! We all have a good dance and sing along together :-) 'Merge NZ & Anika Moa - Nga Ra O Te Wiki in NZSL'

We listened to Stan Walker - Matemateone waiata. We listened to Dave Dobbyn - Slice of Heaven/Hine Ruhi. The children then coloured in a Te Reo phrase with pictures.

My work colleagues and I played iwa tekau ma iwa to practice nga tau te reo māori. We had a great time and it really helped remember nga tau.

Our team is playing a wiki o te reo kahoot quiz!

Kia ora, I greeted my patients in Te Reo Maori for the day, and used more Reo in my consults. Tei hei mauri ora

Besides food, music is the fastest way for me to connect with a culture. You don't have to understand a language to appreciate the intent and meaning behind the words!

These were some of the activities we participated in around our school.

This didn't happen at 12pm on 14 September but still a Reo Moment. While out for dinner, our waiter had a kōrero with us for 30secs using te reo. We asked him for a pic but he politely declined instead referring us to the print on the wall. Ka mau te wehi ki a ia!

video icon

The National Anthem is the pride of any country. To sing it in Te Reo (apologies for the pronunciation) is a privilege. Hope that the language gets its deserved place in our motu and the te Ao.

We listened to the Top 10 Te Reo Singles! 35 by Ka Hao, Rob Ruha was a favourite!

Received the Education Perfect Course Completion Certificate.

It's just me singing 'Tu tira mai', on my ukulele, not very imaginative, but it's a song that means a lot to me, I learned to play the Ukulele here in Aotearoa, and this was one of the first songs I learned, and the first one in Māori.

We had our first go with Tītī Tōrea and we keep wanting to do more and more to really master it! Looking forward to performing for school assembly.

My Maori language moment is dedicated to my Koro Garth, who passed away on this day 7 years ago. This Maori folk song is a tribute to him and all the great memories we shared.

Getting ready for the kids from ruma tekau at HVS, to join our Te Reo Māori Kahoot!

We held a video call at 12pm on the 14th to celebrate Te Reo Māori and this was set up as a 'live recording' of our lockdown video series 'Te Reo TV'. Our Principal shared his pepeha and a favourite whakatauki and karakia, a Teacher shared the meaning of Tāmaki Makaurau and then we all joined our Chaplain in reciting our chapel blessing in Te Reo- over 300 from our community on the call, all speaking Te Reo Māori together - that was our moment!

The Bi-Cultural Commitee at Campbells Bay Kura had awesome plans to make Te wiki bigger and better this year. We had a guest speaker lined up and workshops to get our tamariki immersed in all things Māori. Lockdown happened and we rushed to get something for our Kaioko and tamariki to still celebrate Te Wiki. Part of this was having a full staff zoom at 12pm Tātu 14th September to take part in the Māori language moment for 2021. It was a huge success with over 40 staff participating. We said a karakia, did quizzes and games. This video is super long sorry. If you would like I can send a shorter edited version.

Tena Koe waiata with a guitar accompaniment played and sang by RMLC's owner and administrator.

I created a Wharewhare game that can be played online. I shared the resource with as many of my friends and family as I could before the Māori Language Moment. We played this with my work colleagues. We had a good turnout - 40 people all playing remotely, it was really good because they are all in Level 4 lockdown in Auckland. The photos are from a kura in Gisborne, one of my friends kindly sent me photos and I was given permission to use them. The cards are all Kia kaha te reo Māori themed and they contain a mix of numbers, colours, animals, clothing, days of the week and months of the year, there are 80 items in total. There is one instructor/caller that sets up the game and sends the link out to all the players. The instructor can see everyone's cards and can check when someone calls wharewhare if their card is correct. This can be played on any device, even a mobile phone.

Just learned a cool new kupu from Hemi Kelly's Facebook page. Ko Huiata = videoconference. He mihi nui ki a koe, e Hemi. https://www. facebook. com/groups/263436354660573/

My 6 year old daughter sent through her picture to her teacher on what she wants to be when she grows up but recorded herself saying "I want to be a doctor" in Te Reo Maori.

As part of Mahuru Māori (past and present) I have been making videos that are used in the school and community to teach various Te Reo Māori phrases. This Māori Language Moment the students in my class have been trying to create their own videos that we will use in our school to further teach other concepts or phrases.

We gathered our workplace roopu - Waiata Whakamoemiti for a Zoom hui. We sang Purea Nei, He Kākano Ahau and also the newly released waiata - "Pepeha' by Six60. Such a wonderful moment celebrating our precious taonga - Te Reo Māori! Two of us are Māori, one Canadian and one German! He waka eke noa!

WWF-New Zealand came together for Te Wā Tuku Reo Māori over zoom to learn waiata and practice our mihi.

Sharing te reo kupu with their meaning and waiata on IG stories daily by a Māori artist like Maisey Rika. Yesterday it was manaakitanga with song Aotearoa Stan Walker, Troy Kingi, Ria Hall and Maisey Rika. Kia Kaha te reo māori!

I participated in a group to have a go at the Kahoot! quiz. While we couldn't quite figure out how to enroll correctly, we gave it our own spin and discussed our (mis)understandings of the kupu, shared something about where we are all at, and from - and recommended our favourite resources to keep learning.

I have challenged myself and ākonga to use the Maori words when working on their colour wheels this week! Also when talking about colour in Art to use the Maori words!

We love the new Six60 waiata - Pepeha - we have had some fun learning it together. The kupu are tino ataahua. We sung it outside, and people walking down the street in Newtown could hear us! Ka mau te wehi ngā tamariki o te Kura o Ngā Puna Waiora!

Each class in our school took part in the Māori language moment in some way. These are just a few of the examples of things we did.

Our waiata may have been out of time due to technology but the aroha and wairua was there. A beautiful moment shared with 30 + members of our Wairau Valley Special School community! Mauri ora!

Was doing a power point presentation and included first and last slides with opening karakia and closing karakia 👍
