Written by the late Prof Piri Sciascia this waiata was ā-turi for Ngā Ratonga Kaupapa Atawhai, a rōpū mahi within Te Tari Taiwhenua. We all love performing it, some more rikarika than others and a few were joining us on huitopa.

The New Zealand Consulate-General, Hong Kong gathered on the 46th floor of Central Plaza (third tallest building in the city) for Māori Language Moment 2021. Current Consul-General: John Riley. Current Trade Commissioner: Kiwa Whatarau.

I participated in my first online Te Reo course

Students had to scroll through some summer vocabulary in Te Reo and then write a very short story using at least one of the words in Te Reo. The story is shared and the listeners have to try and guess what the word is. I thought this one was particularly funny, and also effective. Effective because, when my students heard the story shared out loud, they learnt the Te Reo word for "sandcastle" right away! Summer was a catchy topic at this time of year when summer feels closer yet still so far away. . . . ! By Marcus, Room 1 "On a summer holiday a boy goes to the beach with his family. He went to make a pakirikiri straight away, he grabbed his shovel and started to build it. When he was done with the pakirikiri he went to show his mom but when he looked back at the pakirikiri he saw the wave have just washed it away so he rebuilt the pakirikiri he was just about to show his mom when the wave washed it away again, he was furious he started punching and kicking the water but nothing happened. His mom asked him why he was so angry and the boy said the wave keeped destroying his pakirikiri. The mom said to him to build his pakirikiri away from the waves so the boy did and the wave did not destroy the pakirikiri again. The end. "

These are our students lining up to see a Kapa Haka performance and using Te Reo to ask for a sausage and a drink: Homai he inu; Homai he tōtiti. They were tūmeke!

The tamariki and kaiako at All Saints Early Learning Centre, Ponsonby, Tāmaki Makaurau, meet for their regular Zoom morning hui slightly later today to coincide with 12 o'clock. At our special celebration of te wiki o te reo Māori, we sang waiata, used poi, we shared a pūrākau (legend) using magnetic characters of how Māui slowed te ra (the sun), and parted with a karakia.

I am a nurse working at a drive through COVID swabbing centre. My moment came at midday when a Maori couple pulled up for a swab. I have limited Te reo however got brave and greeted them with Kia Ora, Ko Kathie toku ingoa. They responded with their names and it felt like a warm shared moment.

We had a fabulous day with our residents speaking Te Reo, Waiata and sharing whanau connections.

We are incredibly lucky to have been gifted Te Reo lessons by our employer. A few of us got together to ako - learn and practice; kōrero - recite our mihi and whakarongo to each other's mihi. It was special to celebrate together with a supportive group who are all on the same journey

I took this time to listen to some awesome Aotearoa waiata, thanks to www. waiataanthems. co. nz :)

Had a beautiful time of sharing waiata with residents in a facility where I am on placement as a music therapy student. There are some moments Pokarekare Ana is actually just right for, and today was one of them. Kia kaha ngā waiata Māori! Ka nui taku aroha mō te puoro rōreka :)

Singing Māori waiata with my tamariki daily, and normalizing Te Reo in our whare. We have placed the names in te reo māori of our furniture and appliances around our whare to learn new kupu, So far so good 👍

Tēnā koutou Katoa. I te nei ra mo Te Reo Maori, kei te tiimata ahau kia maarama te hiranga te o te ahurea me nga taangata. Hello everyone. With Maori Language today, I am beginning to understand the importance of the culture and people. Maori Language is being increasingly acknowledged as a cornerstone of New Zealand culture, and an important part of the country's heritage. Koira te take, tangata katoa ko wai e ora i Aotearoa, me ako korero Maori. This is why everyon who lives in New Zealand, should consider learning to speak in Maori. KIA KAHA Koutou. Tēnā koutou, Tēnā koutou, Tēnā koutou Katoa. Kia ora.

Got together with the team at work to sing a Waiata (Te Pae Tata) in Te Reo Maori.

My name is Albert Tupuola and this is my son Mānaia Tupuola singing his waiata. He is 2 years old and of Samoan decent. He loves singing and dancing. Ia manuia le vaiaso gagana maori

This was a barrier game activity. The tamariki had to kōrero Māori as much as they could, instructing their partner to 'tae i roto' colour-in a particular part of the pikitia. We tried to use the kupu: matau/ maui, ngā tae, kōkako/ kereru, huruhuru, ngutu, rau, mahunga. Our goal was for tekau miniti, but it stretched out for toru tekau miniti. Tau ke tamariki ma!

I said Kia ora, te reo kapai

This morning we had a wonderful session with whaua Bea where we all took part in singing and learning te reo Māori. Then at 12 o clock today as part of Māori language moment we all came together to practice the waiata we are learning - six60’s song pepeha. This week is Māori Language week and a chance to celebrate and use our country’s indigenous language. The theme again this year is ‘kia kaha te reo Māori’, or, ‘let the language live’. Our kindergarten are getting involved again this year

Wednesday buzz was Ako (Learning): Started podcast episodes on Tōku Reo - first 3 episodes covered greetings and how to greet people. I have a lot to work on with my pronunciation but it was great fun with the kids listening in and sounding the words out :)

I was out walking so I sang some waiata to myself :)

Here is a whakataukī which represents my journey with learning Te Reo Tūwhitia te hopo, mairangatia te angitū! Feel the fear and do it anyway!

We are a Maori Enrichment Learning Room with Kimhia Primary School in Raahui Pookeka. Twenty two tauira have been learning the traditional karakia "Whakataka te hau". As a way to help the students learn the karakia they share which line of the karakia they can remember. Each tauira says their line while the other tauira listen carefully. I have found this way of teaching and learning new information easier for the tauira to learn.

We took part in Task Master - Te wiki o te reo Māori. We designed a new logo for Te wiki o te reo Māori. Rōpu are gaining points throughout the week with kupu knowledge and mahi toi.

At mahi we took some time to translate kupu we use everyday as Real Estate agents. We then finished off with a Waiata.

At ENZ Manapou ki te Ao, we have been celebrating Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori in a big way since 2017. For 2021, we have a week full of exciting activities to get us all giving te reo a go! We are learning about the tikanga behind karakia, making our own poi and getting together to learn a mihimihi. Here's a video of a few of us taking turns to say our mihimihi. No one in this group is a native Māori speaker but it's fantastic to see the effort everyone has gone to. This week, there are many more groups in our organisation learning their mihimihi together!

As a primary school class we spent an hour doing a variety of activities: te rākau, mahi whai, toi Māori and we listened to waiata anthems. It was brilliant!

Kia ora koutou! There are many things that define New Zealanders and connect us to our home, and te Reo Māori is one of them. To mark this very special week, Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week), I’d like to share my pepeha. My pepeha acknowledges the guiding principle of my life: What is the most important thing in the world? It is people! It also acknowledges my ancestors from India; my mountain-Himalaya; my river-Ganga; my mode of transport to arrive in Aotearoa- Singapore airlines; my tribe-Indians and Christchurch is home to me, my husband and our children. My name is Sunita Gautam🙏❤🙏 #reomaori #newzealand #aotearoa #christchurch #Ōtautahi #sunitagautam

An online session learning our Agency waiata this morning. Not ideal with all the technology lag that comes with hui-a-tima but we got there! Suddenly I don't sound like Mariah Carey after all when I'm the only one singing and everyone else is singing on mute! Ka mau te wehi tātou! Mauri ora!

In 4L we have been learning about how to ask someone how they are feeling and share our own feelings te reo Māori. We have learned to express a variety of emotions. To celebrate te wiki o te reo Māori we drew chalk pictures to represent various emotions and wrote Māori sentences to match. We hope that other students in the school will see our drawings and learn some te reo, too!

Today we hosted a 30 minute Teams session with the famous Dr Hinemoa Elder. This kōrero was about Māori Hauora (Health and Wellbeing) discussing how to use Māori values and principles in your everyday life to enhance your health and wellness. We had 63 kaimahi and haumi attend. Dr Hinemoa's session has inspired many in attendance with a number of the attendee's being inspired to attend te reo lessons for their own development. Some of the comments after the session were: “Nga mihi thanks so much for this opportunity today. Kia ora” “Kia Ora for this inspirational speech Dr. Henemoa Elder! “ “Thank you so much - feeling rangimarie – peaceful” “Ngā mihi Dr Hinemoa, was so awesome to have the opportunity to hear your korero” What an amazing and inspiring session :)

Today we ran a 30 minute online zoom meeting for staff and whanau at 8. 30am. Our host was the amazing Taane Mete. His session was entitled "Kani kani a Pāpatūānuku" and was a simple Yoga inspired session to start our day. We had 32 people attend from all walks of life - even some senior leaders who had never tried yoga before! Some of the feedback we received were: “great session guys really enjoyed that I have never done yoga before. ” “Kei te 'hari koa' ahau. I am feeling happy “ “Manaakitia - Feeling Blessed”

Capital Montessori Preschool tamariki gathered together with kaiako and sang their favorite waiata Te Aroha and Tu tere mai nga iwi. It was fun to explain to tamariki why we were singing at 12pm, and supporting them to understand that lots of other tamariki might be singing at the same time as us. They always enjoy joining together as classrooms and this was a fun way to support this.

Ruma Pīwakawaka at Hornby Primary School celebrated Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori by singing waiata, reciting whakataukī, colouring in whakataukī posters, and dancing the matariki macarena. We had an absolute blast immersing ourselves into the language and culture and are going to be continuing the celebration for the rest of the week!

For the third year running - Te Roopū Māori o SkyCity (Māori staff group) have run some activations to support Te Wiki i Te Reo Māori. The SkyCity group spans across all our sites within Aotearoa and can also include Australia. We have around 4, 500 staff across the group. Understandably things are a bit tough with Covid, but we as a group were determined to run some fun and engaging events to engage and educate our people. We started with some simple online 30 minute teams or zoom, levelling up with a number of interesting events as detailed below; 1) Maori Language Moment with TRMOS - 14. 09. 21 2) Kani kani a Papatūānuku with Taane Mete - 15. 09. 21 3) Hauora Māori with Dr Hinemoa Elder - 15. 09. 21 4) Learn basic mihi & karakia kai with TRMOS - 16. 09. 21 5) Fun Māori Quiz with TRMOS - 17. 09. 21 Added to this we ran a fun and creative tik tok, video or pic challenge for staff and their whanau called "Karawhiua" from Mon 13. 09 to Mon 20. 09. We gave away prizes at every event and had a diverse selection of both our Māori and non-Māori colleagues and friends attending and contributing through out the week. 2021 has been a challenging year for all businesses and whanau, and SkyCity is no different. However, we will still persevere - kia kaha, kia mai, kia manawanui!
