Te Wā Tuku Reo Māori 2021 | Your Moments

From schools, to workplaces to whānau and friends. Thousands of New Zealanders stopped to share in a moment of unity for our people and our language. In joining our Māori Language Moment, you became part of a movement that began a generation ago.

Kia kaha te reo Māori!
Kia kaha Aotearoa!

Oops I forgot to take a photo, but I was on Zoom with my Space Mums & Bubs group and we sang some waiata to celebrate the moment at 12pm :) There were about 12 adults and 10 bubs present!

Education New Zealand Manapou ki te Ao will waiata. "Last year we launched Education New Zealand Manapou ki te Ao's signatory waiata 'Manapou ki te Ao'. It was composed and sung by our very own Chief Advisor Māori Ed Tuari and Te Haumihiata Mason. Ed had also come up with some actions and he taught them to staff. This year, we would like to create a giant flash mob of the Manapou ki te Ao actions. Our aim is to have each and every one of our staff members attending. We are an international organisation with staff members based all across the globe and operating in various countries.

Ko te reo taku ao, nō reira ko tāku noahe whakatenatena, he whakapoapoa mai i te tini makiu mā roto i taku whakamahi i te reo tongarerewa.

For explicate work reasons I am supposed to participate in this vital call :) Please believe me :)

There is something about this word that speaks to me. I know I can't truly achieve turangawaewae myself, being pākeha, but this word creates a powerful sense of belonging for me. I hope through my te reo Māori journey to gain more understanding of the connection of the language to the sense of self.
